Unlike some other systems, OpenShot has had many major versions in 2021 alone, which addressed issues and added new capabilities. However, many users have reported substantial slowdowns when using OpenShot, so remember to look out for any efficiency difficulties.
Pros
- Easy-to-use interface
- Unlimited layers
- Super engaging
Cons
- It sometimes lags, which is inconvenient
2. Shotcut

Cons
- Takes a good chunk of space on your computer

Lightworks is a powerful platform, featuring transitions, timeline-based editing, cloud and local storing, and no watermarks on the final video, yet being completely free to use. As a result, several additional features are only available with a Lightworks subscription account.
The premium edition of Lightworks charges $23.99 monthly, $239.99 annually, or $389.99 for a lifetime membership for a single user. 10 Best Open Source Video Editors in 2024 [Free]
Check out this list of best open source video editors that you can use to produce long-form content for YouTube, your online marketplace, or several other venues when you’re on a small budget:
For Win 7 or later (64-bit)

For macOS 10.14 or later

1. OpenShot
OpenShot is a free and open-source video editor with no premium features. In contrast, the website provides a donation option. You may use the complete range of functions without paying anything. This works with all versions of Windows, including Windows 7, Mac OS 10.15, and most Linux variants.
For a free site, it also has a fairly large variety of graphic effects, ranging from title themes and video transitions to 3D animations. OpenShot also differs from many other video editors in that it is updated regularly.
Unlike some other systems, OpenShot has had many major versions in 2021 alone, which addressed issues and added new capabilities. However, many users have reported substantial slowdowns when using OpenShot, so remember to look out for any efficiency difficulties.
Pros
- Easy-to-use interface
- Unlimited layers
- Super engaging
Cons
- It sometimes lags, which is inconvenient
2. Shotcut
Shotcut is a cross-platform, open-source video editing software with a large library of instructional videos. It also works with FFmpeg, 4K , ProRes, and DNxHD, among other formats. However, because Shotcut was created for Linux, many users may find the UI a little strange. Regardless, it’s still a fantastic editor.
Shotcut also has a lot of sound editing capabilities, so it’s great for audiophiles. Customers may change bass and treble, construct bandpass filters, alter gain, apply dynamic compression, and more with its array of audio fine-tuning options. FFmpeg, the dominant multimedia foundation, provides shortcut support for the newest video and audio codecs.
The native timeline editing enables customers to instantly add video files into their project folder instead of using a media library. A project uses multi-format timelines to mix up resolutions and frames per second.
Pros
- Excellent editing features
- Offers decoding and encoding features
- Multi-format timeline
Cons
- Takes a good chunk of space on your computer
3. Lightworks
Another famous video editor that can be downloaded for free is Lightworks . Lightworks is compatible with most major operating systems and devices, such as Mac, Windows, and Linux.
In less than two years, the annual and monthly choices would cost more than a lifetime membership, so if you want to use Lightworks for a lot longer, you should select for lifetime access.
Pros
- A nice video editor with a lot of options
- Ideal tool for YouTube video makers who wish to edit their videos regularly
- Offers smooth service
Cons

Developed by Lightricks Studio, Videoleap is one of the most powerful video editors, which is available for iOS and Android devices. While you can directly install Videoleap on your iPhone or Android phone by visiting its App/Play Store page, you won’t find its desktop application. That’s why a lot of people find it hard to install Videoleap on their macOS systems. Don’t worry – here, I will let you know how to install Videoleap for MacBook and would also list its best alternatives.
- Part 1: Major Features of Videoleap
- Part 2: Download and Install Videoleap for MacBook
- Part 3: 2 Best Alternatives to Videoleap for MacBook
Part 1: Major Features of Videoleap
You might already know that Videoleap is a popular smartphone app that is used for video editing on iOS and Android devices. It is a part of the Lightricks Creative Suite that would let you create, edit, and share your videos in one place.
- You can find all kinds of basic editing options in Videoleap to crop, trim, rotate, or flip your videos.
- Videoleap provides a layer-based editing interface that would let you work on videos, images, audio tracks, and other media content.
- There are hundreds of visual effects (like transitions, stickers, filters, etc.) that you can readily use in Videoleap.
- Some of the other smart features of Videoleap would be green screen edits, prism effects, sound editing, and so on.
Part 2: Download and Install Videoleap for MacBook
As I have listed above, Videoleap for MacBook is not directly available as it runs on iOS and Android devices only. Though, you can access this video editor on your Mac by using any reliable Android emulator tool. An emulator can load an Android OS environment on your Windows or Mac system, letting you run all these smartphone apps.
While there are plenty of Android emulators out there, these are some of the most popular options:
- BlueStacks
- Nox Player
- MEmu Player
- ARChon Player
Out of them, let’s consider the example of BlueStacks as it is the most popular and reliable Android emulator in the market. You can install BlueStacks on your MacBook for free, log in to your Google account, and can readily use Videoleap on it.
Step 1: Install a Reliable Android Emulator like BlueStacks
To begin with, you can install any reliable Android emulator on your MacBook. For instance, if you want to install BlueStacks, then you can visit its official website, and click on the “Download” button.
Now, you can just click on the installer to run it on your MacBook. You can just go through a simple click-through process and select a location where you want to install the application on your Mac.
Just make sure that you have at least 5GB of available storage of your Mac (and it should have at least 2GB RAM).
Step 2: Connect your Google Account on BlueStacks
Once you have installed BlueStacks on your MacBook, you can launch it, and go to the Google Play app. From here, you can just log in to an active Google account on the BlueStacks app.
Step 3: Install Videoleap for MacBook via BlueStacks
That’s it! Once you have configured Google Play, you can just launch it, and look for “Videoleap” from the search bar. After finding the app, you can click on the “Install” button and wait as Videoleap for MacBook would be downloaded.
After Videoleap is installed on BlueStacks, you can launch it, and start editing your videos without any hassle.
Part 3: 2 Best Alternatives to Videoleap for MacBook
As you can see, installing Videoleap for a MacBook can be a tedious job as it is only available for smartphones. Therefore, instead of using an emulator to install Videoleap, you can consider using the following video editors on your Mac.
1. Filmora
Filmora is one of the best video editing apps that is super-easy to use and fully supports all the major macOS versions. It is a multi-timeline macOS video editor that would let you apply all kinds of edits and use tons of visual effects to make your content look appealing.
- User-friendly Video Editing
You can load clips, images, audio files, and other media content on different timelines of the editor. It provides instant solutions to crop, trim, rotate, flip, and do all the other edits in a user-friendly way.
- AI-Integrated Features
Wondershare Filmora has also included highly advanced Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality features. For instance, with its AI Portrait Mode, you can detect a human face on the video and instantly remove its background. There are also tons of AR stickers that you can just drag and drop to your videos.
- Tons of Video Effects
On Filmora, you can also explore hundreds of video transitions, overlays, filters, stickers, and numerous other effects. You can readily add captions and other text effects to your videos as well.
- Sound Effects
Apart from video editing, you can also edit the added soundtracks in your videos. Using Filmora, you can add voiceovers to your videos and apply effects like fade in/out, denoise, audio ducking, and so on.
- Other Features
Furthermore, Filmora offers some of the most advanced video editing effects for Mac such as Auto Reframe, color tuning, pan-and-zoom, green screen, video stabilization, and so much more.
2. iMovie
Lastly, if you are looking for a freely available alternative for Videoleap for MacBook, then you can try iMovie. The video editor is developed by Apple and is already installed in leading Mac systems. While it doesn’t offer so many extensive features, iMovie would meet your basic video editing needs.
- Ready-made Templates
On iMovie, you can find several professionally made templates that you can simply load and customize to create videos.
- Sound Effects
Besides editing your videos, you can also add sound effects to your projects, and edit them as per your preferences.
- All Basic Editing Features
Once the video is loaded on its timeline, iMovie will let you perform all the basic edits such as clip, trim, crop, rotate, flip, and so on.
- Other Features
A few advanced features of iMovie are green screen edits, tons of transitions and filters, 4K video editing, caption effects, and other optimized features for Mac.
Final Words
There you go! I’m sure that after following this guide, you can easily use Videoleap for MacBook. Since Videoleap is only available for iOS and Android devices, I have come up with a stepwise approach to install it on Mac. Though, instead of Videoleap, you can consider using Wondershare Filmora on your MacBook. It is a far better and more user-friendly video editor for Mac that has some of the most advanced features.

For example, K-3D offers extremely systematic and methodological workflows. You can easily adjust the properties of the features in real-time and get instant results. It has a node-oriented visualization pipeline to enjoy more freedom. That means you can create animation using a variety of combinations.
One of the best things about K-3D is that it has three subdivisions of animation. You can work on your model on one side while showing the other side in a mirrored form. Then, experience the final result combined together. And in case you need to make the changes to the end results, you can simply work on the first subdivision and savor automatic changes to the results.
K-3D has an advanced redo and undo mechanism to ensure you can go back or move forward to make corrections or amendments without limits. Additionally, the tool is developed keeping in mind all the industrial standards. For instance, it has complete support and integration of native RenderMan™ to its user interface. Part 1: How to Fade Audio by using the Modify Menu
You can go to the Modify menu and easily apply fade-in or fade-outs to the audio clip you are editing. The Final Cut Pro preferences also allow you to adjust the fade duration.
Step 1 : First, you have to select the audio or the video clips with audio in the timeline.
Step 2 : Select Modify> Adjust Volume> Apply Fades.
You should remember that the fades appear at the beginning and the end of each clip. The default duration of the fade is one half-second. If you want to modify that duration, you just have to drag the fade handle up to the point where your fade is supposed to begin or end.
Step 3: If you want to remove the fades, choose Modify > Adjust Volume > Remove Fades.

Part 2: How to Fade Music by using Fade Handles
You have already learned how to find the fade handles on the screen. Now, you just have to manually drag the handle to the exact point from which you want the fade to begin or end. Just keep in mid this simple rule: fade handles at the beginning of a clip produce fade-in effects, whereas fade handles at the end give fade-out effects.
You can manually fade-in or out a portion of the audio clip on your timeline by using the fade handles. Place the pointer over the clip and you can see the fade handles appearing in the top left and right corners of the waveform. To change the sound of the fade, you’ll have to modify the shape of the fade by selecting one of the several preconfigured choices.
Using the fade handles to create crossfades:
Step 1 : To create a crossfade, first you have to select two adjacent clips in the timeline. After that choose Clip> Expand Audio (or press Control-S). You can see the waveforms on your screen expanding.
Step 2 : To overlap the audio parts of the two clips on your timeline, just drag the end point of the first clip and the start point of the second clip.
Step 3 : Now, you’ll have to drag the fade handles of each clip to the exact points where you want the fade to start and finish.
Tips: How to change fade shapes while using the fade handle
You can easily change the sound of your fades by modifying the default fade shape. For this, you’ll have to control-click a fade handle and select one of the fade preferences from the list.
- Linear: The rate of change is constant over the length of the fade.
- S-curve: Eases in and out of the fade with the midpoint at 0 dB.
- +3dB: Picks up quickly and then gradually peters out toward the end. This is the considered to be the most useful mode while choosing a quick fade.
- –3dB: Begins slowly and then toward the end picks up fast. This setting allows you to maintain a perfectly natural volume while crossfading two clips.
